Prince Harry’s charity chair claims Meghan Markle performed function in dispute

The chair of an African charity co-founded by Prince Harry has revealed that tensions with the Duke of Sussex started in April 2024 when she declined a request to publicly assist Meghan Markle, intensifying a rising dispute.

In an interview, with the Monetary Occasions, Nichola Pease Chandauka, who has led Sentebale since 2023, said that the organisations greatest problem was ‘the toxicity’ surrounding its lead patron’s model.’

On Tuesday, Prince Harry and Prince Seeiso introduced their departure from the charity following a failed try by trustees to take away Chandauka as chair. 

The fallout resulted within the resignation of all 5 trustees and the royal patrons, prompting the UK Charity Fee to launch an inquiry.

Chandauka has alleged she confronted ‘disrespect, bullying and intimidation’ throughout her tenure-claims which have been strongly denied. She maintains that the discord started when she refused to permit Sentebale to function a platform for Meghan’s public protection. 

‘I stated no. We can’t flip this charity into an extension of the Sussex PR machine,’ she asserted. 

The battle escalated in March when Chandauka took authorized motion, in search of an injunction from the UK Excessive Court docket to stop a vote on her elimination. 

She argued that Prince Harry’s polarising status since relocating to the U.S-including controversies stemming from his Netflix collection and memoir-had hindered the charity’s efforts to safe funding and entice senior management.
